PONTOS AND GAIA
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
In Greek mythology, Gaia is revered as the goddess of the Earth and the primordial mother of all creation. She emerged from Chaos as one of the first deities, giving birth to a multitude of divine beings, including the heavenly gods, sea gods, giants, and all mortal creatures. Gaia's significance is underscored by her role as the progenitor of numerous mythological figures through her unions with other primordial entities such as Uranus (the Sky) and Pontus (the Sea).
In the story of Simanity, Gaia is recognized as a primordial deity, serving as the origin for all mortals and werewolves, embodying the essence of life itself.
Pontos, in contrast, is the Greek god personifying the sea. Unlike later sea deities, he represents the sea itself rather than merely residing within it. Born from Gaia at the dawn of time, Pontos embodies the Mediterranean Sea and plays a foundational role in Greek mythology.
Within Simanity, Pontos is depicted as the very first merman and serves as the ancestral figure for all mermaids. His story includes a romantic elopement with Gaia, undertaken to protect her from her jealous spouse, Tartaros.
