Chapter 4: Water and Fire

"Are you there?", she looked up, hoping Zeus was listening from up there.

Aside from feeling under the weather since she gave birth to Seth,
there was this certain sadness Eve felt in her that she couldn't quite explain.

It felt heavy and overwhelming she dashed off not knowing where she's going,
only that she had to go as far away as she could from home.

Meanwhile, Zeus could no longer bear the feeling of missing Eve,
so he went out just to get a glimpse of her even from afar.

On his way there, he felt this sense of foreboding as his feet lead him exactly where Eve was.

He watched as she struggled to maintain her balance,
and he felt a pang of guilt for leaving her to go be with other women.
He realized that he had been foolish to think that anyone could replace Eve in his heart.
He realized that he still loved her deeply and missed her terribly.

As he stood there, watching her, he wondered if she still loved him.
He wondered if there was still a chance for them to be together.
But as he took a step forward, Eve, burning with fever, suddenly fainted.

Zeus rushed to her, lifted her up, and carried her to the nearest cave.

He was worried about Eve as he had never seen her this frail before,
but he also didn't want to be seen with her especially in bed together.

As he was leaving, Eve woke up and stopped him.

"Please don't leave," Eve whispered.

Zeus replied, "I can't stay here. We just can't..."

"I take back everything I said before. Please, I need you here, Zeus...", she begged.

Zeus, of course, could not say no to her.
How could he when deep inside, he also wanted to be with her so bad.

They both fell asleep and soon morning came.

"Are you feeling better now?, Zeus asked.

She nodded.

Her face looked so beautiful in the golden light cast by the morning sun
that Zeus could not resist the urge to kiss her.

Adam witnessed the scene and angrily confronted Zeus.

"How dare you touch my wife again!", he yelled at Zeus as he grabbed him by his garment.

Eve pushed Adam away and asked him to stop.

It infuriated Adam even more seeing that Eve seemed to side with Zeus.

Alas! Zeus lost his patience and punched Adam.
He wanted to use his powers but knew Adam would not be able to survive it.
He cared about Eve so much that he chose to deal with Adam on the same level so as not to hurt Eve because he knew Eve also cared about Adam being the mother of his children.

Defeated, Adam couldn't find the strength to get up.
The feeling of betrayal was more painful than the blow he got from Zeus' fist.

It was in that moment when it finally dawned on Eve - she loved Zeus more than Adam
that she was willing to sacrifice everything just to be with him.

The humiliation from stooping down was too much for the king of the gods and men
he left Eve devastated and heartbroken.
